Spreading hope and joy: Spring Lake Toys Foundation unites a community to support Middletown’s Paralyzed Teen

June 07 event to raise money for new home construction for Sky Mendoza and her family

Middletown, New York – May 22, 2023 – Sky Mendoza, a courageous young woman whose life took an unexpected turn after a devastating car accident, now has been given a ray of hope with the help of an incredible fundraising initiative. On June 7, 2023, the Spring Lake Toys Foundation, led by its dedicated visionary founder, Paulette Pera Laurenzi, will host an unforgettable birthday celebration event to raise funds for Sky’s new handicap-accessible home in Middletown. The event will take place at the enchanting Villa Venezia located at 2257 Goshen Turnpike in Middletown, New York. It will feature hors d’oeuvres and drinks, followed by a memorable dinner reception.

“We are so thrilled by the outpouring of support for this event,” said Paulette. “Knowing we have the community behind us to accomplish our goal of completing the Mendoza family home is truly amazing.”

Sky’s journey has been marked by tragedy, but her resilience and strength have inspired many. In November 2018, a tragic car accident claimed the life of her pregnant stepmother and left Sky paralyzed from the neck down. After spending eighteen months in a rehabilitation facility, she finally returned home to Middletown with her loving father, Orlando, and two siblings. Unfortunately, their home is not equipped to handle Sky’s day-to-day challenges. However, with her new home, Sky will have the comfort and accessibility she deserves.

“It will be thoughtfully designed to accommodate Sky’s unique needs, featuring wheelchair accessibility throughout the entire house,” said Paulette. “In a heartwarming gesture, Sky’s father requested that the original architectural plans be modified to transform the planned one-car garage into a room where Sky and her friends can spend quality time together.”

Spring Lake Toys Foundation, renowned for its dedication to supporting families of children with rare illnesses, has taken the lead in organizing this initiative for Sky. “We believe in the power of community and compassion, and our mission is to provide a helping hand to those who need it most,” said Paulette Pera Laurenzi. “Sky’s story touched our hearts, and we are committed to making her new home a reality, filled with love, joy, and opportunities for independence.”

This remarkable evening would also not be possible without the generous support of benevolent sponsors: The Frassetto Companies, Webster Bank, and Villa Venezia. Co-Chairs for the evening are Kevin O’Reilly, Owner of Satin Fine Foods in Chester, NY and Christopher Fiorillo, Central Orange County Italian American Association in Goshen, NY. Their commitment to Sky’s journey and their belief in the power of community will help bring her closer to a life of comfort and independence.

There will be live entertainment, and silent and live auctions for golf foursomes, fine dining, spa experiences plus an exquisite piece of Tiffany jewelry and/or a week-long vacation in the Bahamas!

Tickets for the June 07 event are $100. To purchase tickets, visit www.ticketstripe.com/SLTF-SKY.
