Lawrence R. Inserra, Jr. is Chairman & CEO of Inserra Supermarkets, Inc., one of the largest family-owned and operated supermarket chains in the metropolitan area, which operates ShopRite stores throughout New Jersey and New York. Inserra Supermarkets was founded in 1954 by Larry’s grandfather, Patsy Inserra. And the first store was located in Lyndhurst, New Jersey. Although the original store no longer exists, the new ShopRite of Lyndhurst is still referred to as Patsy’s. Under the entrepreneurial guidance of the late Lawrence Inserra, Larry’s father, Inserra Supermarkets grew to 8 stores by 1980. In 1981 the company enjoyed a banner year and added an additional 6 stores bringing the total to 14 stores. From 1982 to present the company continued to expand and today Inserra Supermarkets owns and operates 23 ShopRite Stores and 2 PriceRite Markets in Bergen, Hudson and Passaic Counties in New Jersey and Rockland County in New York.

Every succeeding generation of Inserras has built upon Patsy’s vision of providing the highest quality products at the most reasonable prices.

Larry was born in Newark and raised in Rutherford, NJ. While attending high school, Larry worked in the family ShopRite business. He then attended Lehigh University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business and economics. In addition to his family business accomplishments, Larry provides leadership to a number of communities and other business organizations. He is the Chairman of Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation, and serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Wakefern Food Corporation, Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey and Lakeland Bank. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees for Hackensack Meridian Health, Montclair State University and Community Resource Council.

Larry and his wife Inez currently reside in Mahwah, NJ.
